Dr. Vural Ünlü worked in auditing (Arthur Andersen, Cologne) and fund management firms (Keystone Equities, Boston). Following his postgraduate studies he joined Gemini Consulting in 1999 and worked as a Senior Consultant in the Bad Homburg office on a range of strategy projects. Since 2000, he works for international media companies in business development, rights acquisition and -trade. Following marketing responsibility with EM.Entertainment GmbH, a leading German family and children entertainment rights provider, he acquired the exclusive commercialization rights of the FIFA World Cup 2006TM licensing program with a retail volume exceeding €2bn and managed successfully these rights, doubling their commercial value vis-à-vis the last FIFA World CupTM cycle for the world football organization FIFA. He subsequently held the position as Head of International Business of EM.Sport Media AG (now renamed into Constantin Medien AG) and generated business with international sports events (such as “Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey” in 2008) and sponsorship activities.

Dr. Ünlü has a dual citizenship, that of Turkey and Germany, and speaks five languages, four fluently. He is active in politics and an honorary member of diverse media and migration-related societies.


Dr. Vural Ünlü studied in London (England) and Reutlingen (Germany), obtaining a German and English first-class undergraduate degree in business administration. He then received an MBA with distinction from the ICADE of the Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid (Spain) and his doctoral degree (Dr. oec. publ.), in the field of rights management and game theory, from the faculty of business administration at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich.

He received his doctoral degree (Dr. oec. publ.) in 2004 with a magna-cum-laude standing from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich. His thesis „Content Protection – Economic analysis and techno-legal implementation“ analyses and suggests solutions to the problem of digital piracy. The main focus of his media economic research interests are Strategic Media Management and Rights Management for which he continues to publish and present at international conferences.
